Robbie Ryan, born in 1970 in Dublin, Ireland, is an Irish cinematographer with over 106 projects, including feature films, shorts, commercials, and music videos. A graduate of Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, he decided at 14 to pursue cinematography. Ryan frequently collaborates with directors like Andrea Arnold (Wasp, Fish Tank, American Honey) and Ken Loach (I, Daniel Blake, The Angels’ Share). He met Yorgos Lanthimos in 2015, and they aspired to work together, starting with The Favourite (2018), followed by Poor Things (2023). Since then, Ryan has been Lanthimos’ primary cinematographer. He earned Oscar nominations for Best Cinematography for The Favourite and Poor Things. Other works include Marriage Story (2019) and C'mon C'mon (2021). Ryan, a member of the British Society of Cinematographers, also directs music videos and emphasizes visual storytelling across genres.
